Freeman Spogli has acquired Philz Coffee in a deal reportedly valued at $145m, as the Los Angeles-based private equity firm adds the 77-unit U.S. coffee chain to its growing consumer portfolio. The acquisition, expected to close on 6 August 2025, sees Philz continue under the leadership of CEO Mahesh Sadarangani, who joined the company in 2021.
For a medium roast with responsible sourcing, try Philz Coffee Tesora blend, at 78 cents per pod on Keurig. Tesora has a smooth, toasted flavor and full-bodied texture.
The menu includes the all-new Caramel Banana Brew that starts off with Philz's Mission Cold Brew, almond, milk, banana caramel sauce and a caramel swirl finish. The menu also includes the returning Spiced Vanilla Soul with its Philtered Sou Cold Brew, Ghirardelli vanilla sauce, spiced oat milk and finishing dash of cinnamon. The menu also boasts desserts from regional bakeries.
